Willkommen! German Club has been a long tradition at McQueen, one that we gladly continue to this day. I am German Club adviser and help guide our members in planning events at school. We always have a great time and would love to have you join us. You don't have to be in German class to be a member. We develop new ideas and events each year, but here are some of our annual events that we love.
Oktoberfest
Every year German Club puts on a huge celebration for Oktoberfest. All of the German classes compete to make the most Edelweiss flowers which are used to decorate the court yard. The winning class receives a party. German Club sells plates of German cuisine to staff and students for $5. Plates typically include: Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, Kartoffelsalat, Bretzeln, Brot und Wasser. We also play a bunch of German music. The money raised is to benefit the German program at McQueen. It's really fun and is one of my favorite days of the school year.

Gingerbread House Building Contest
Every December German Club hosts a gingerbread house building contest. All students are welcome to participate and our club provides the basic materials: graham crackers, frosting and some candies. Students are encouraged to bring more of their own supplies to design their house just the way they want it. We have had some incredible creations over the years. Students can work in individually or in teams if they choose. The students have 4 lunches to complete their projects and the winners are voted on by the staff. The houses can be traditional or very creative - the choice is yours. The winning student or team receives a German prize. It's really fun and delicious.

German Chocolate Advent Calendars
Toward the end of fall semester, German Club sells wonderful chocolate advent calendars for $5 each as a fundraiser. Each calendar has 24 pieces of German chocolate inside to count down to Christmas. These are a big part of German tradition and a favorite at the school. They're fun and make great gifts.
