This trip is underway. All of the students have been selected to participate. The Austrian students and teachers will be arriving in April for 2 weeks. They will be staying with McQueen families and attending our school during their stay. One teacher will stay with Herr Case and his family and another teacher will stay with me and my family. McQueen students selected to participate in the program will host an Austrian student in their home for 2 weeks, and will be hosted in return once we arrive in Waidhofen.
We will be going to Austria the week after school gets out for summer. We will not be doing a hotel stay in Vienna, but have instead planned day excursions to Vienna, Salzburg and Dürnstein. Austrian families have also planned activities for the students they are hosting. This is sure to be another incredible trip! The McQueen students have been selected for the trip and we are so excited to take off this summer. Our next trip should be the 2019-2020 school year! |
2015-2016 Austria Trip
This trip we hosted 17 Austrian students and 2 teachers in Reno and at McQueen. Herr Case and I took 20 students with us to Austria for our home exchange in Waidhofen. The students got to experience what high school is like in Austria and immerse themselves in Austrian culture. We had a few day trips planned with BRG and even got to try some medieval blacksmithing. The students spent a lot of time with their host families exploring Austria and practicing their German. We had a large going away in traditional fashion with delicious food, drinks and music. Many of the American students borrowed dirndls and lederhosen from their Austrian families. It was a great experience of the kids to dress in traditional Austrian clothing.
We wrapped up our trip with a 4 night stay at a hotel in Vienna. We spent time touring the beautiful palaces and cathedrals this incredible city has to offer. Everyone also got some free time to walk around the main shopping center of town and do some exploring. Overall it was a great trip and we are excited for the next one. |
All of our seniors on the trip. We had our own little senior sunset.

2012-2013 Austria Trip

During the 2012-2013 school year, we hosted a group of 14 Austrian students and 2 teachers in April. They arrived right after spring break and stayed with us for two weeks. Many of the students had never been to The United States before. The Austrian students were hosted by McQueen families and everyone had an amazing experience. We took the Austrians to see the sights around Northern Nevada and the hosting families planned additional activities individually. We had a big western themed going away party at the end of the two weeks and said our goodbyes until June when we flew to Austria. We took 10 students to Austria for about 2 weeks.
We landed in the capital, Vienna, and took a bus to Waidhofen. We arrived at the school where all of the families were waiting for us. The McQueen students attended school with the Austrian students. Herr Case and I met with the students every morning at school to check in and see how everyone was doing. We all went on some great trips with the school and as a tour group. We saw wonderful sights around Waidhofen and also spent 4 days at a hotel in Vienna touring the city. One day we took a boat down the Danube River into Bratislava, Slovakia and toured the city for the day before heading back to Vienna. |
