Music is a major part of everyday life and culture. It is also an excellent way to improve your German and learn about popular music in the German speaking world. Below are some well known German artists and bands, as well as famous classical musicians. There is a variety of music available in German, from country to rap, and punk to pop. Carlo Waibel is a German rapper, singer, producer and designer. He describes his music as a mixture between pop and rap, which he calls "Raop." He is one of my favs.

A German rock band from Cologne, which was founded in 2011. They sing in both German and English. The three founding members' surnames created the band name.

They are a five-person band from Chemnitz, Germany. Their music combines rock / indie and Sprechgesang with German lyrics and is a mixture of rap & indie.

Bourani was born to Egyptian parents and adopted as an infant by a German family in Augsburg, in the south-west of Bavaria. He came onto the music scene in 2011.

Christina Klein better known by her stage name LaFee, is a German singer/songwriter who has sold more than one million records worldwide. Her music is pop-rock.

Joris Buchholz was born in 1989 and became interested in music as a child. He met his band members while attending a music academy. Their music is indie pop.

They are a Hip-Hop/Electro band that formed in Hamburg, Germany in 1997. The band had its first success at the turn of the millennium with the single “Bon Voyage.”

He is from Austria and his real name is Johannes Sumpich. He studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy. He found musical success with his song Cordula Grün.

The daughter of a music therapist, she started making videos with Pianopop on YouTube at age 15. A lot of her music focus on love, relationships and life experiences.

He grew up in Berlin-Schöneberg and got his first guitar for Christmas when he was 12. He started creating music in 2012 and has won the Berliner Pilsner Music Awards.

No longer together, WIr sind Helden was a German pop rock band that was established in 2000 in Hamburg and based in Berlin. They created pop rock and indie music.

EAV (Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung, which translates to "First General Confusion") is an Austrian band that was formed in 1977. Their songs are funny and they still perform.
